Strong winds, heavy rain, and mountain snow will wind down today as the recent parade of storm systems gives way to high pressure.
One last surge of moisture will flow over the Northwest today, leading to areas of moderate to heavy mountain snow and low-level rainfall. Additional rainfall up to 1 inch is likely today across western Washington. While widespread flooding is not anticipated, localized flooding is ongoing and will continue to be a problem today. As a result, Flood Watches & Warnings remain posted throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Meanwhile, snow will continue to pile up in the Cascades. A fresh 8-12 inches will be possible near the passes, while 2 feet or more of fresh snow will be possible today over the highest elevations. Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories remain in places across the region.
In addition to the rain and mountain snow, gusty winds will be common today. Winds will be the strongest during the morning hours, with winds gradually easing throughout the afternoon hours. High Wind Warnings & Advisories remain in effect throughout the Pacific Northwest. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph are likely in the lower elevations, including cities such as Bellingham, Seattle, and Olympia. Locally higher sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 55 to 65 mph are expected in the mountains, especially this morning.
Rain and snow will depart the stormy Northwest tonight, with a large ridge of high pressure expected to bring settled weather to the region through the end of the week.
